Update from the Author

So, you may have noticed (or not) that July 15th has come and gone without much celebration on the part of the Logbook. Partially by design, and partially due to time constraints, I’m scaling back some of the site. Mostly, in the form of ending novellas (for the time being).

Though I love writing them, they’re much more time consuming and equivalent to writing books than I can afford to devote without further income. However, whilst doing one now, I’m incapable of the other.

SO, that means novellas are out for now. Books are in.

Fridays will become wildcards, like Mondays. Leaving the bulk of the content on Tues. Weds. Thurs. If that bums you out like it does me, you can buy one of my books or spread the word with Authorsmnolan.com. Only with that can I start to focus more on my work, and thus the site, in a professional capacity.

Though I intend to finish the series I’ve begun sometime in the distant future, their format and release are far too indeterminate for now. So, it is not so much so long to an era as it is see you later. Sooner or later, these characters will return and delight, thrill, or frighten again.

On the flip-side, I do intend to continue not only Short Stories, but also Vignettes and Poetry. So these three days (Tue, Wed, Thurs) are still filled. The various graphics will also eventually be altered to reflect the changes.

Beyond this, I still have other projects I intend for this site, but temporarily they are either on hiatus or delayed for the foreseeable future.

SO. AGAIN. Basically, I’m focusing on books and getting rid of serials/novellas for now. (Unless people begin to donate or support).

Much easier, right?

Now, BEHIND THE SCENES:

I’m working on a new fantasy-scifi world, fleshing it out bit-by-bit. Some of what’s posted will be canonical. Others won’t. Some stories may be subject to addition, others removal, based on what I feel best befits the world.

All of this will support other, larger works anchoring their “Worlds” via larger, lore-based events and reactions in specific timelines.

Basically what this means is, from here on, just about everything posted can or might be connected in someway. Otherwise, it will likely be obvious what is not based on setting or style.

TLDR: everything is chaos and logic has failed. Down is up. Gravity, anti. Dark, Light. Cats cleaning the dogs’ tails: whatever these omens portend, revolve the Tues, Weds, Thurs, mantra.

2018 New Year Update! (HAPPY [late] NEW YEAR!)

Incoming transmission from the Wordsmith of Sol:

Merry late…everything, everybody!

First off, I wanna apologize for any neglect of late. It has been hectic the last few months and I’ve been less active and involved lately. Sorry. I’ve been forced to split time between books, site-work, re-formats, image editing, and the mental debauchery necessary to keep my sanity through them.

All the same, I’m hoping it’ll be less of an issue going forward. I’ll be doing my best to manage my time and be more active, but ultimately it may seem to start slow and sporadic as I work more interaction into my routine.

In the meantime, if you want to take some of the load off, link my site or even a specific story to people you think might enjoy it. As ever, you know I’m hugely grateful.

Moving along.

It’s been a while since I’ve updated you with plans present and future. So without further stalling for time:

New ebooks— I’m working on new ebook versions of previously released material. This will fix formatting and typographical errors, but if you happen to come across any and they bother you, please let me know so I can fix them. The is the unfortunate effect of being unable to pay for an editor, but I am immensely grateful to those that help and will credit you appropriately.

Smashwords— part of this re-formatting is being done for the sake of Smashwords.

If you don’t know, Smashwords is like Amazon Kindle but allows me to sell my books world-wide and (potentially) millions more people by redistributing to other digital retailers. A full list can be found here, if you’re interested.

Novels— In case you’re not aware, Free Fall  is futuristic Sci-Fi set two-hundred years after depleting resources resulted in nuclear war across Earth’s surface. This event, or series of them, caused survivors to hollow swaths of earth to live within. There, they constructed intricate digital networks of synthetic life; machines created to mimic the nature lost above, but at the cost of an equally intricate digital illusion blinding them to reality.

Currently well on its way toward completion, Free Fall’s release is TBD, but expect it sometime late 2018-early 2019.

Last, but not least!

Novellas, Short Stories, & New universe–Over time, I will be releasing stories from a new “universe” I’ve begun building. I won’t spoil anything, but they will connect to one another in subtly obvious ways, but also to others both released and not.

Fleshing out this world has become a bit of a passion project, but I’m eager for it. Why? Wait and see. I can tell you though, I’m excited about it.

So, keep an ear out for all this and more this year. I’ll do my best to be more present, but if you’ve got any questions, ask ’em. And as always, thanks for reading!

P.S. Pardon any digital dust over the next weeks. I’ll be periodically updating parts of the site. If you have any suggestions or comments, leave ’em here and let me know what you think.

lbav1finlowres

Incoming transmission from The Wordsmith of Sol:

Well, Crew, it’s finally done. The Logbook Archives: Volume 1 is currently on its way to you via the internet’s fantabulous conglomeration of interconnected, intergalactic pipes. On November 23rd, 2016, the first edition of the new, yearly archive of The Logbook will release. For only 2.99 on the Kindle store (or as part of the 5.00/mo contribution reward on Patreon) you can own (or pre-order) the first year’s collection of short-stories and poems in their new format. Over a hundred short stories and poems, in Ebook style, complete with a table of contents, themed headings, and a special foreword by yours truly.

But wait, there’s more!

With “LBAV1’s” completion, I can begin focusing on the Ebook formatting of the first year’s Novellas and the cover design, as well as my next, full-length novel release. But here’s the cool thing; the novella Ebook collection will be completely free! Also, “LBAV1’s” proceeds will go toward first upgrading, then maintaining, this site before it is put to other uses.

It’s been a long year of learning experiences, Crew. It’s taken longer than I’d have liked to get this stuff to you, but I know what I’m doing now, so it will take less time in the future. You’ve all been very patient and I’m extremely grateful for that.

So, thank you for everything so far, and don’t forget to mark the calendar! Alternately, visit Kindle or Patreon to keep abreast of any news you might otherwise miss. Or, if you just can’t wait ’til release, pick up a copy of The Omega Device to hold you over!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE LOGBOOK!

So here it is, a year since I began regularly posting to the Logbook. Essentially, a year since its birth. A lot’s been said, or rather typed, and I couldn’t be more pleased by the result. I’m eternally grateful to everyone who’s read my work. It always makes my day when I receive comments, likes, and follows, or see the stats page with its ever-growing numbers. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else with my life but writing, and I sincerely hope the past year is just the start of things.

With all of that in mind, let’s get down to brass tacks: I’ve posted tons of work, and will continue to, but there’s something else lingering on the horizon– or rather, a few things. First and foremost is my book, The Omega Device.

For those unaware, I’ve written a book (several actually) that is about to be self-published. Why? Simply, I don’t care to wait for agents and publishers anymore. I’ve put over five years of blood, sweat, and yes even tears, into this book. It’s the culmination of a lot of things in my life. From the time of its first draft to now its final, I’ve struggled to find purchase as both a writer and a person. Now however, I feel I can take a leap of faith and maybe not splat on the ground quite so terribly as I might have before.

And that is largely due to all of you, readers.

The next thing, is the Logbook Archives. If you’re a regular to the site, or simply have explored beyond the main page, you may have seen the Logbook Archives page which lists all of my posted works. Its usually updated every few weeks. You may also have seen the previous posts where I’ve talked about collecting them into an ebook. Well I just want to assure everyone, that will soon be happening. It will be released shortly after The Omega Device, and will be found wherever it can be hosted.

Lastly, there is one other thing. I’ve always tried to refrain from talking too much about money. I don’t care for the subject, and it turns a lot of people off (myself included.) That said, it’s always going to be something I have to address as a starving artist-type. So to make it easier for all involved, in addition to my book release, I will also be starting a Patreon page for those who want to donate to keep me writing. (If you don’t want to donate, please disregard this and buy the book instead.)

Before I go, I also want to say; (though I don’t want to get too mushy, or personal, because as I’ve said, I prefer my writing to speak for itself.) It is extremely heartwarming and humbling to have put part of myself “out there” and not have it bludgeoned into oblivion. Most of my life I’ve struggled with extreme anxiety. For a writer, that’s a dangerous condition. Against my better self-preservation instincts, I began to post what I’d been working on for years. The confidence you, readers, have helped to impart has allowed me to continue on to new works that have surpassed even my wildest expectations.

As much as I do it for myself, I also write for all of you. I have a strangely, innate ability to distance myself from my work enough to read it as a reader might. I’ve found myself both laughing at and along with myself, being thrilled, suspended over precipices, and strung along excited with the rest of you. I continue to do what I do so that we can share in that together, even if part of me also does it to remain sane.

So before I belabor things too much (too late!) I want to say thank you, and I hope the next year’s even more fruitful than the last. Thank you for an amazing first year!

P.S: Just so you all know I’m not just talk, I present the cover to The Omega Device, coming soon to a digital bookstore near you! (I’m still in the process of purchasing the font rights, so don’t sue me.)

Coming Soon!
