Update from the Author

So, you may have noticed (or not) that July 15th has come and gone without much celebration on the part of the Logbook. Partially by design, and partially due to time constraints, I’m scaling back some of the site. Mostly, in the form of ending novellas (for the time being).

Though I love writing them, they’re much more time consuming and equivalent to writing books than I can afford to devote without further income. However, whilst doing one now, I’m incapable of the other.

SO, that means novellas are out for now. Books are in.

Fridays will become wildcards, like Mondays. Leaving the bulk of the content on Tues. Weds. Thurs. If that bums you out like it does me, you can buy one of my books or spread the word with Authorsmnolan.com. Only with that can I start to focus more on my work, and thus the site, in a professional capacity.

Though I intend to finish the series I’ve begun sometime in the distant future, their format and release are far too indeterminate for now. So, it is not so much so long to an era as it is see you later. Sooner or later, these characters will return and delight, thrill, or frighten again.

On the flip-side, I do intend to continue not only Short Stories, but also Vignettes and Poetry. So these three days (Tue, Wed, Thurs) are still filled. The various graphics will also eventually be altered to reflect the changes.

Beyond this, I still have other projects I intend for this site, but temporarily they are either on hiatus or delayed for the foreseeable future.

SO. AGAIN. Basically, I’m focusing on books and getting rid of serials/novellas for now. (Unless people begin to donate or support).

Much easier, right?

Now, BEHIND THE SCENES:

I’m working on a new fantasy-scifi world, fleshing it out bit-by-bit. Some of what’s posted will be canonical. Others won’t. Some stories may be subject to addition, others removal, based on what I feel best befits the world.

All of this will support other, larger works anchoring their “Worlds” via larger, lore-based events and reactions in specific timelines.

Basically what this means is, from here on, just about everything posted can or might be connected in someway. Otherwise, it will likely be obvious what is not based on setting or style.

TLDR: everything is chaos and logic has failed. Down is up. Gravity, anti. Dark, Light. Cats cleaning the dogs’ tails: whatever these omens portend, revolve the Tues, Weds, Thurs, mantra.

2018 New Year Update! (HAPPY [late] NEW YEAR!)

Incoming transmission from the Wordsmith of Sol:

Merry late…everything, everybody!

First off, I wanna apologize for any neglect of late. It has been hectic the last few months and I’ve been less active and involved lately. Sorry. I’ve been forced to split time between books, site-work, re-formats, image editing, and the mental debauchery necessary to keep my sanity through them.

All the same, I’m hoping it’ll be less of an issue going forward. I’ll be doing my best to manage my time and be more active, but ultimately it may seem to start slow and sporadic as I work more interaction into my routine.

In the meantime, if you want to take some of the load off, link my site or even a specific story to people you think might enjoy it. As ever, you know I’m hugely grateful.

Moving along.

It’s been a while since I’ve updated you with plans present and future. So without further stalling for time:

New ebooks— I’m working on new ebook versions of previously released material. This will fix formatting and typographical errors, but if you happen to come across any and they bother you, please let me know so I can fix them. The is the unfortunate effect of being unable to pay for an editor, but I am immensely grateful to those that help and will credit you appropriately.

Smashwords— part of this re-formatting is being done for the sake of Smashwords.

If you don’t know, Smashwords is like Amazon Kindle but allows me to sell my books world-wide and (potentially) millions more people by redistributing to other digital retailers. A full list can be found here, if you’re interested.

Novels— In case you’re not aware, Free Fall  is futuristic Sci-Fi set two-hundred years after depleting resources resulted in nuclear war across Earth’s surface. This event, or series of them, caused survivors to hollow swaths of earth to live within. There, they constructed intricate digital networks of synthetic life; machines created to mimic the nature lost above, but at the cost of an equally intricate digital illusion blinding them to reality.

Currently well on its way toward completion, Free Fall’s release is TBD, but expect it sometime late 2018-early 2019.

Last, but not least!

Novellas, Short Stories, & New universe–Over time, I will be releasing stories from a new “universe” I’ve begun building. I won’t spoil anything, but they will connect to one another in subtly obvious ways, but also to others both released and not.

Fleshing out this world has become a bit of a passion project, but I’m eager for it. Why? Wait and see. I can tell you though, I’m excited about it.

So, keep an ear out for all this and more this year. I’ll do my best to be more present, but if you’ve got any questions, ask ’em. And as always, thanks for reading!

SMN

P.S. Pardon any digital dust over the next weeks. I’ll be periodically updating parts of the site. If you have any suggestions or comments, leave ’em here and let me know what you think.

Transmission Ends.

Happy 2nd Birthday to the Logbook!

Incoming transmission from the Wordsmith of Sol, please stand-by:

So, here we are. Two years later. Wow. That’s a long time. In my case, it was quite a bit of hair ago too! To all the strands pulled and lost, I salute ye.

BUT! This is a celebration, right!? Right. And more than that, it’s my annual extra-special-thank-you, my readers. Thank you for making my job worthwhile. And most of all, possible. That’s the most important part, you make it possible. I’ll keep things light and short, but your support means the world.

So… Now to fess up: It’s been a tough year. Externally and internally. The internals are the toughest things of all. So, of course, it’s taken me a bit longer to do somethings I promised to. Namely, the Novella collection.

As said, it will be free. It is also, as a result of my making it free, and the aforementioned toughness, not out yet. I promised it a year ago, so I want to apologize for its absence. Rest assured, it is coming. I have a cover in the works to be revealed soon, so keep an eye out!

I also want to announce The Logbook Archives Vol. 2 will release soon! (Actual date TBA) More than that, my next book’s on its way. Free-Fall  follows an amnesiac fighting to cope with his wholly synthetic world. More information can be found on Book Excerpts which I will update soon.

But wait there’s more!

This year I’ve done a lot of writing. A lot. Like… a lot. Mostly, Novellas. Which are, frankly, exhausting. I intend to keep up with my schedule, but I may have to choose between Novellas and books in the future. Should that occur, the latter will take precedent, but I will make it known well in advance, and it would only be a hiatus from Novellas.

Part of that is the result of the aforementioned toughness. Simply, it’s difficult to keep producing work when you’re experiencing hardship– financial, physical, or emotional. I have all three. There I said it.

That said, to help insure my resolve, please consider Funding me on Patreon, buying my books, or spreading the word through twitter and facebook.

I understand things are tough all over. Monetary support isn’t always an option. If you find yourself limited in that way, please merely spread the word. I love my work. I love all of you. Most of all, I’d love continuing my work without, you know, eating out of garbage cans. (The smell kills my appetite)

On that rather jaunty note, here’s a few things I’m currently working on:

Logbook Archives Vol.2
New Logo
“Free-Fall”
Custom domain name
Advertising (to spread reach new readers)
And obviously, more stories and poems!

Now that that’s outta’ the way, we return to your regularly scheduled programming.

Thank you again for 2 great years, and here’s to many more!

Poetry-Thing Thursday: Keep On My Way

Keys clack tales,
over the smell of black coffee.
Hands off the rails,
and mind rich like fresh toffee.

Worlds and cities.
Men and women.
All written as ditties,
from others once given.

The only time the keys ever stop,
are to light a smoke, swish coffee, or punch the clock.
Leaving me most days at the top,
but some others, weighted, beneath the dock.

Though I want no sympathy,
I must admit,
that when without empathy,
I often think to quit.

For life is short,
and death far too long,
to waste in the court,
of a lost lover’s song.

But something keeps me calling,
back on my muse,
and whether flying or falling,
I’m paying my dues.

Whether bound to in blood,
or by some sense of duty,
pages and pages I’ll flood,
whether with horror or beauty.

But I must reiterate,
that I’ve come close to starving,
hoping to instill,
mental or emotional carvings.

Without readers and others near me,
to keep me afloat,
I would drown in the sea,
of a success-surrounding moat.

For now I’ll just say,
that no matter the biting,
I’ll keep on my way,
and continue writing.

Three Day Quote Challenge: Day 1

So, here’s the deal, RaxtusDragon (a most excellent young writer you should all read!) has nominated me for a quote challenge. I have to say I’m humbled. Truly. I tend to think of myself as a rambling fool checked only by successive revisions that…

Hmm, moving along.

For three (nonconsecutive) days I’m to think up a quote then some people to nominate to continue the trend. I won’t hold any of the nominees to the fire to do this, but nominations are a sign that I enjoy your words. So without further padding for time, I present Day 1:

“The Universe is our home. It just so happens our point of origin’s a spheroid we call Earth.” -SMN

Thank you again to RaxtusDragon for the nomination.

My nominees (Day 1):

1. PoetGirlEm

2. OnTheHeath

3. EverythingINeverToldYou

For the nominees wondering about more direct rules:

1.Three quotes for three days (From you.)
2.Three nominees each day (no repeats).
3.Thank the person who nominated you. (I use a lotta’ these don’t I?)
4.Inform the nominees. (This is the last one, I promise.)

(Okay, I lied.)

New Announcement!

lbav1finlowres
The Logbook Archives Volume 1 Coming Soon!

So, The Omega Device has been out a while, (if you haven’t yet, go buy it) and as promised, I’ve been hard at work on the first volume of The Logbook Archives. Above is the cover. It’s nothing too special, but I’m proud of it. A lot of respect has to go to Justin Callaghan for his excellent Space Age font that also graces this site’s logo. Mad props to him for his awesome work.

What is The Logbook Archives, and why Volume 1?

The Logbook Archives is the section of my site that I archive all of my works in. Essentially, this is the same thing in eBook format and with a special foreword written by yours truly. The book is also divided into sections with each one headed by a theme. I’ve decided, as is somewhat indicated by the cover, to make this an annual release after July of every year. (It has been a while since July, but I’ve been busy. Next year’s will probably come quicker.) “Volume 1” is self-explanatory then. It’s the first year. (And what a year it was!)

What’s in it?

Every short story and poem posted from July of 2015 to July of 2016. This does not include novellas however, they are much too long. As it stands the book’s manuscript in my word processor is already 350+ pages. The novellas will be released, but separately from this eBook and with their own covers. That is next on my list.

Why an eBook?

Simply, I know it is difficult to read a website sometimes. Either due to connection issues or the simple lack of wanting to read the format for extended periods. This is my solution to that, though I wouldn’t advise replacing visiting the site with reading the eBook since they come so far apart. This is your chance then, to take the Logbook with wherever you go, net or not, and in the process, help support it!

So when’s it coming?

I’m not entirely certain yet, but within the next month or so. There is still formatting to be done, and other decisions to be made. Rest assured though, it is coming, and it will be soon. I will announce a solid date ASAP.

In conclusion, I want to say a big thank you to everyone! You’ve made this last year so exciting and wonderful and I wouldn’t be where I am without you. If you like my site and don’t want to see it go away, buy my book, contribute to my patreon, or spread the word via blogs, Twitter, Facebook, or otherwise. I greatly appreciate all of you, and would hate to have to pack it in for fear of starvation. That said, I’ll probably be here until I drop from it, but I’d like to avoid it as long as possible. Also if you haven’t yet, you may follow and/or like my pages on Twitter, Facebook, or Google+.

And stay tuned for a bonus poem coming later today!
